Twice Magician of the Year, widely considered by his peers to be the greatest stage Magician of the past century. Now, add award-winning filmmaker to his extensive list of accomplishments. Lance Burton yielded to his muse, and immersed himself fully into his dream of making a family feature film. “Billy Topit Master Magician” made its film festival world premiere with Burton serving as the production’s co-writer (with Michael Goudeau), director, producer and its star. The Wild Rose judging team showed their love of this fun, magic-infused romp by awarding “Billy Topit Master Magician” six awards, including a coveted Best Award as the Best Family Film at the 2016 festival.

Other awards earned by Burton’s film are Distinctive Achievement Awards for Lance Burton (Actor), Robert H. Massey (Visual Effects),

Robert H. Massey (Editing), Gabrielle Lyster (Costumes), and Lauren Bairis (Production Design/Art Direction).

In a serendipitous piece of festival scheduling, Heartland audiences still will be available to see Burton’s award-winning film at the Fleur Cinema & Café, 4545 Fleur Drive, Des Moines, Iowa. Two screenings are offered on Thursday, May 19 (5:00 PM and 9:40 PM), with Burton making personal appearances at both screenings, answering questions about his film following each screening. Tickets for these special screenings are $25 each, with $15 from each ticket going to support the Animal Rescue League (ARL), which serves Central Iowa.

“I look forward to helping the Animal Rescue League in Iowa through the film festival premiere of “Billy Topit, Master Magician,” at the Wild Rose Film Festival,” Burton told the festival’s director.

Lance Burton’s passion for animal rescue and adoption is almost as legendary as his skills as a magician. Burton often creates unique fundraising opportunities, leveraging his career as one of the world’s most memorable magicians to raise funds that will benefit and help protect animals.
